Birmingham

Birmingham - Birmingham is the largest city in the US state of Alabama (AL) and is the county seat of Jefferson County. The population of the city 231,483. Birmingham ranks as one of the most important business centers in the Southeastern United States, is also one of the largest banking centers in the USA.

Climate - Birmingham has a temperate climate characterized by warm summers, mild winters, and abundant rainfall. Birmingham has slightly less rainfall than the Gulf Coast and is slightly cooler.

Birmingham, “The Magic City,” is the industrial southern city turned into a business city. But, in between these stages came important events like 1963’s sit-ins and protests against the Jim Crow system, statements like Dr. Martin Luther King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” and music related to the times like Coltrane’s “Alabama.”

South of Nashville on I-65, the city is surrounded by ridges and mountains that give Birmingham a relief from industry and business in favor of natural beauties. But, it does get hot down there in the summertime. Go see the Museum of Art and the restored Alabama Theater. Other cities have older restored theaters, too, but they're all special. Birmingham is a minor-league sports city. It has a lot of charm as a result.

In Birmingham, tour the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, where sports heroes and their memories live forever. Visit Rickwood Field, the world's oldest ballpark, and view America's largest motorcycle collection at Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum. The AMA Superbike Championship in April and the Grand American Rolex Series in July occur at the adjacent Barber Motorsports Park. Metropolitan Birmingham also boasts a variety of fine restaurants, exciting nightlife, museums, historic sites and shopping. Birmingham's minor league Barons play at Regions Park in Hoover.

Enjoy some of America's best bouldering at Horse Pens 40 in Steele. Spend the day on the Cahaba River near Birmingham, a delightful place for the ultimate kayaking or canoeing experience. For amateur fishermen or pros vying for a championship bass, an abundance of opportunities await.

Golfers have a choice of 30-plus facilities in the region, including three on the Robert Trent Jones Trail: Oxmoor Valley and the Renaissance Ross Bridge Resort in the Birmingham area.
