Pune
A location where old and new India interweave without having a second thought, Pune (pronounced Poona) is often a thriving centre of academia and firm along with a historic centre and residence for the Osho Meditation Resort.
The very good Maratha leader Shivaji would be astonished to see how his city has changed in 500 years. He was raised here after the city was granted to his grandfather in 1599. The town fell towards the British in 1817 and became their selection capital during the monsoon. Several maharajas had palaces here, too, taking advantage of its cooler climate.
Despite the pollution and clogged targeted traffic that typically go with Indian cities, Pune is an useful place to hang out for your day or a couple of and a good place to look the much touted, but sometimes tough to find, ‘New India’.
